MONDAY, AUG. 1

Stolen by a Familiar Face

Whitley A. Cole, 22, of Evergreen Park, turned herself in and was charged with deceptive practice on suspicion she cashed a stolen check at an Evergreen Park currency exchange, reports said. Police visited the complainant on July 21 who said he realized he was missing a check and later learned it had been cashed by Cole for $250. Police said they left a message with her to call police and she later turned herself in at the Evergreen Park Police Department.

A Few Garage Door Openers

Mitanette A. Cooper, 33, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft after she was found with four garage door openers and two pairs of scissors in her purse at Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St., police said. According to police reports, the items were valued at $173.82.

Problem at the Pump

Police responded to a fight at 6:30 p.m. at the Speedway gas station, 3040 W. 95th St., and later arrested Semaj Simmons, 37, of Chicago, police said. Officers said they were told when they arrived that Simmons and another patron were arguing over a pump. Police said Simmons entered the store, began yelling and swearing and was told by another patron to stop. Simmons reportedly threatened to stab the patron and then left, according to police, who stopped Simmons at 95th Street and Western Avenue, arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct.
