WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 28

Cops Spot Phony Check

 arrested a man accused of attempting to cash a fraudulent check at 2:49 p.m., according to reports. Police said a clerk from Payday Loans, 2507 W. 95th St., alleged that Bryan Payton, 37, of Chicago tried to cash a fraudulent check made out by a bank in Minnesota in the amount of $2496.88. Payton said he received it in the mail, but when police contacted the company, officials there said it was a fraudulent check, according to police. Police charged Payton with deceptive practice.

Man Caught Taking Wire from Old Webb Ford Lot

According to police, a man was seen damaging property on the lot of the former Webb Ford, 2601 W. 95th St. Police said at about 4:56 p.m. Sean D. Weber, 40, of Evergreen Park, removed copper wiring from the poles and damaged the lights in the parking lot. When police arrived on the scene, they found Weber walking near 96th and Washtenaw Avenue, according to reports. The witness who saw Weber damage the property identified him, police said. According to police reports, officers contacted Martin Webb, owner of the lot, who “said he wanted to sign complaints for criminal damage to property.” Police said they found a bag containing tools to cut wire 100 feet south of where an officer stopped Weber. Police charged Weber with criminal damage to property, according to reports.

Case of a Stolen Check

Evergreen Park Police recently arrested a man for cashing a stolen check in January. According to reports, on Jan. 20 at 4:39 p.m., Kenneth H. Burvender, 23, of Chicago cashed a check in the amount of $115 at Payday Loans, 2507 W. 95th St. The store had paid out on that check, police said, but later found out it was stolen and reported it to police. After investigating, the company said the stolen personal check was from a Chase bank account, police said. According to reports, the Payday Loans clerk identified Burvender from a photo. Police arrested and charged Burvender with theft.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 23

Police Arrest Man for DUI

Police said while an officer was running radar at 95th Street near Kedzie Avenue at 2:30 a.m., he heard a loud noise and saw a car drive west after hitting another car at 95th Street and Turner Avenue. It then drifted into the curb lane and hit a car, then the protruding curb, police said. When police stopped the car in the 3700 block of West 87th Street, it bounced off another curb. When Gus A. Adamopoulos, 35, of Munster, IN, got out of the car, police said they “smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.” According to reports, “Adamopolous was unsteady on his feet and needed to lean on the car for support.” Police said they gave Adamopolous a field-sobriety test, and be blew .165, approximately “twice the legal limit.”

Police said they charged Adamopolous with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol above .08.

Walmart Retail Theft

At 1:10 p.m., two women were seen taking items off display racks and putting them into their purses, police said. Accirding to reports, Taja C. Spires, 23, of Chicago took $38.92 of miscellaneous merchandise. Police said Antoniette L. Black, 22, of Chicago took merchandise valued at $31.67. According to reports, the women went past all points of payment and were stopped upon leaving the store. Spires and Black were both charged with retail theft, police said.

Police Charge Man with Obstructing Justice, Resisting Arrest

Police said a man refused to provide identification to an officer during a domestic disturbance, then he resisted arrest. According to reports, at 3:40 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Fairfield Avenue, Raymond D. Marzano, 61, of Evergreen Park was charged with attempt at obstructing justice and resisting a peace officer. Reports said officers responded to the address to investigate a domestic disturbance, and Marzano was there and “refused to cooperate at all.” After several attempts to get him to cooperate, police told him they were going to place him under arrest, and he resisted arrest, police said.

Eat and Run

Two people were arrested at Walmart and accused of theft. According to reports, Rachael L. Donahue, 22, of Chicago was charged with theft of service. Police said she ordered $6.35 in food from Walmart at about 4 p.m., ate it and left the store without paying. Police said John J. Broda, 29, of Chicago, was charged with theft of labor and services at the same time. Reports said that Broda also ate $6.35 in food without paying for it, and additionally took cosmetics valued at $19.94.
