THURSDAY, OCT. 20

Cops Spot a Suspicious Car, Discover Heroin

saw a suspicious car sitting in a gas station parking lot, according to reports, where officers found drugs and paraphernalia.

According to police, at 7:46 p.m., officers approached the car in the 2600 block of West 95th Street and all three people in the car gave conflicting stories as to why they were parked there. Police saw a clear plastic bag at the feet of Ivory Miles, 42, of Evanston, who said that he just purchased and used a small amount of heroin before they arrived, police said. Police also recovered a plastic straw from Miles’ right pants pocket. Miles was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

THURSDAY, OCT. 20

Random Plates Check Lead Cops to Marijuana

Police said at 5:39 p.m. Leslie Cornelius, 34, of Chicago was charged with possession of marijuana, suspended license, no insurance and expired registration.

According to reports, police stopped Cornelius in the 4600 block of 87th Street, ran her plates and found out they were expired. Upon approaching her car, police requested her identification, and when she reached into her purse, cops saw a clear plastic bag with green material, police said. A check on her driver’s license revealed that it had been suspended since 1997, police said.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 19

After Theft Complaint, Cops Find Heroin

Police said after getting a complaint about a possible theft, they found drugs on the offender. According to reports, police charged Anthonell Gunn, 38, of Chicago with felony possession of a controlled substance.

After officers responded to a call of a disturbance at the 87th and Kedzie Walgreens at 7:50 p.m., they found that Gunn was possibly involved in theft, police said. According to reports, upon searching him for evidence, police found a small plastic bag with a white substance in it. Police said the substance field tested positive for heroin, and .01 gram was recovered.

TUESDAY, OCT. 18

Man Accused in Grocery Theft

Evergreen Park Police charged George Rojas, 40,  of Chicago with retail theft. According to reports, at 11:20 a.m., Rojas had a shopping cart with food in it while in Pete’s Fresh Market, 3720 W. 95th St., but the manager saw him put a few items in his coat. Police said Rojas paid for the food in cart, then left the store. The manager recovered one pound of ham, two packages of sandwich steak and mozzarella cheese all valued at $30.71, police said.

SUNDAY, OCT. 16

Police Nab Three at Walmart

Police charged three women with retail theft. According to reports, Kinyatta Williams, 19, Rashieda Saunders, 19, and Courtney McElrath-Bey, 21, all of Chicago, and a juvenile who wasn’t charged were seen by Walmart store security taking items. Police said at 2 p.m., a Walmart security officer said she saw the women take items from the cosmetics and jewelry sections. According to reports, Williams took one watch and two bottles of body wash, both valued at $19.94, McElrath-Bey took a watch valued at $10, and Saunders took a handbag and body lotion totaling $15.97. Police said store security caught the women upon exiting the store.

FRIDAY, OCT. 15

Man Hides Marijuana in His Sock

At 9:15 p.m., Robert Andres, 51, of Burbank was charged with no valid insurance, obstructed windshield and possession of marijuana. Police said they saw his car travel north on Western Avenue near 92nd Street with a dream catcher suspended from the rearview window that was obstructing his view. According to reports, Andres presented a driver’s license but couldn’t present valid proof of insurance, and police smelled marijuana. While searching Andres, police felt a large bulge from his right ankle sock, which was a sandwich bag containing 8.3 grams of marijuana.

SATURDAY, OCT. 15

Failure to Signal Leads Cops to Marijuana, Paraphernalia

Evergreen Park Police stopped Madelyn Bertrand, 18, of Evergreen Park in the 2800 block of 98th Place at 9:37 p.m. when she failed to signal, police said. While talking to her, police said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Bertrand handed over a small plastic bag with marijuana, and when she was taken into custody, they found another small bag with marijuana and a multicolored smoking pipe on the floor next to driver’s seat, police said. According to reports, Bertrand possessed 1.7 grams of marijuana. Police ultimately charged Bertrand with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and failure to signal.
