SUNDAY, FEB. 1

Cops Charge 4 with Criminal Trespass

When  ran a random license plate check on a car, they discovered it was a stolen vehicle and had several occupants, including a child who wasn't secured properly in the back seat, according to reports.

At about 12:16 a.m., police said they saw a 2002 Buick Century traveling south in the 9400 block of Western Avenue with expired license plates. When police ran the car vehicle identification number, they learned the car had been stolen out of Dolton on Jan. 19, according to reports.

Police charged Cameron D. Hull, 31, of Evanston, Tiffany S. Curry, 20, of Chicago and Starritta L. Scates, 20, of Chicago with criminal trespass to vehicle.

Police said they smelled marijuana after talking to the driver, Lemont E. Gates, 49, of Chicago, and found a 3.8-gram bag of marijuana in his pocket. Gates was charged with possession of marijuana, criminal trespass to vehicle, expired registration, improper display of driver’s license plates, suspended driver’s license, no insurance and failure to properly secure a child younger than eight, according to police.

MONDAY, JAN. 30

Family Fight at Applebee’s

According to police, four people were arrested after refusing to leave Applebee’s, 2411 W. 95th St. Reports said at about 12:31 a.m., police responded to a fight in progress at the restaurant, and upon their arrival, they found that several family members were fighting. Police said the group disturbed others in the restaurant and made a scene after being asked to leave. According to police, they were leaving the restaurant, but started fighting again as they got into their cars.

Police charged Anthony L. Johnson, 22, of Chicago; Keiana M. Sessions, 18, of Hammond; Demisha C. Brown, 18, of Chicago; Aaron L. Johnson, 20, of Chicago; and Takeisha L. Sessions, 28, of Chicago with criminal trespass to property and disorderly conduct.

Caution: Hot Coffee

According to reports, Evergreen Park police arrested a woman after she threw a cup of coffee at a man. As Amy E. Colomb, 45, of Bolingbrook, exited the back of a bus at 95th Street and Pulaski Avenue at about 10:47 a.m., police said she began screaming at a man who was standing at the bus stop. According to reports, she threw the coffee at the man, but it landed on his groceries he had just bought from a nearby grocery store. Police charged Colomb with assault.

SUNDAY, JAN. 29

Illegal U-Turn Leads Cops to Drunken Driving

Police arrested Lasade Jasimne Renee Curtis, 18, of Dolton, and charged her with driving under the influence. According to reports, at about 2:21 a.m., police saw her make an illegal U-turn at 95th Street and Homan Avenue, then drive 46 mph in a 30-mph zone. When stopping her, police said Curtis didn’t have her driver’s license or insurance, and they smelled alcohol. Police said “she admitted that she had been drinking,” but refused to take a breathalyzer test. According to reports, police ultimately charged Curtis with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper U-turn, speeding, no rear plate light, obstructed windshield and no insurance.

SATURDAY, JAN. 28

Driver Speeds Under the Influence

Police said they arrested Yasmeen L. Ocasio, 20, of Berwyn and charged her with driving under the influence and speeding. According to reports, an officer on patrol saw a red 1997 Chevrolet driving 40 mph in a 30-mph zone on the 3200 block of West 95th Street at about 4:36 a.m. After stopping Ocasio at Sawyer Avenue, the officer said he noticed she smelled like alcohol, needed to use the car to balance herself, and had trouble finding her insurance card and speaking with him. Police said Ocasio failed a field sobriety test. 

Police Find Controlled Substances in Car

Kathleen D. Casey, 31, of Palos Heights, was charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and one count of illegal transportation of possession of open alcohol by the passenger.

At about 11:02 p.m., Evergreen Park police said tactical officers saw a vehicle at 87th Street and Rockwell Avenue with expired registration. After stopping the driver, police said they saw the driver throw a knotted clear plastic bag out the window. Police spoke with driver Jay V. Washington, 34, of Maywood, and passenger Kathleen D. Casey, 31, of Palos Heights, and saw an open alcohol bottle between the driver and passenger seats, according to reports. An officer also recovered a plastic bag with marijuana from the seat, police said.

Police said they also found two pill bottles with the prescription name removed on the floor between the driver’s and passenger’s seat. One bottle contained 84 pills of codone and acetaminophen tablets, while the other bottle had 30 tablets of codone and acetaminophen, police said. Casey was charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and one count of illegal transportation of  open alcohol by a passenger. Police charged Washington with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, expired registration, transportation of open alcohol and no insurance. Neither Casey nor Washington would admit to owning the pills, police said, so they were both charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

FRIDAY, JAN. 27

Men Charged with Possession After Traffic Stops

  • Johnathan H. Klecka, 25, of Oak Forest was charged with felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana. Police said Klecka had one glass pipe with burnt residue, one gram of cocaine and a half a gram of marijuana. At about 7:03 p.m., officers saw a 2002 Oldsmobile traveling east on 87th Street in the 3300 block with no rear registration light, according to reports. Police said Klecka made an improper right turn from the center lane of 87th Street to southbound Kedzie Avenue. After police stopped the car, they saw Klecka reaching into the center console and the back of the car. Police said a strong odor of marijuana came from the inside of the car. As Klecka exited, one tactical recovered a small jar containing marijuana and a smoking pipe with green residue, and a small plastic bag containing cocaine attached to the rear of the front passenger seat pocket, according to police. Reports said police also charged Klecka with no rear registration light, improper turn and no insurance.
  • Evergreen Park police said they saw a man turn without using a signal, and later found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police said Raheim M. Foster, 19, of Chicago, was driving at 100th Street and Central Park Avenue at about 5:49 p.m. After they stopped him for turning without signaling, police said they smelled burnt marijuana coming from the car. According to reports, Foster had a small hand-rolled marijuana cigarette in the car, and a purple keychain pipe with marijuana residue. Police arrested Foster and charged him with failure to signal when required, no valid insurance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.

Police Find Marijuana on Passenger

At about 10:32 p.m., police said they arrested Dwight Jones, 38, of Chicago and charged him with unlawful possession of marijuana. According to reports, Jones had 0.3 gram of marijuana. Tactical officers saw an Oldsmobile with illegally tinted front windows at 95th Street and Western Avenue, police said, and when they stopped the car, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana. No contraband was found on the driver, but Jones, the passenger, had a plastic baggie in his pocket that field-tested positive for marijuana, according to reports.

THURSDAY, JAN. 26

2 Charged in Walmart Retail Theft

Raymond Myles, 18, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft. According to reports, Myles took two video games valued at $39.92 at about 7 p.m. Myles and a juvenile were seen removing two video games from a display at the electronics department of Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St., according to reports. Police said security found them in a different department, where they took the games out of their packaging and hid them in their jacket pockets. They then went to the bathroom and put the discs in their backpacks, police said. Store security caught them upon exiting the store, according to reports.
