WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 7

Cops Find Marijuana in Car Outside Church

said they saw a man sitting in a parked car at 9 a.m. behind a church hide an object under the driver’s seat. According to reports, police smelled marijuana upon approaching the car, and the driver admitted to hiding a bag of marijuana. Police said they arrested David R. Shove, 20, of Palos Heights, and charged him with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to reports, police recovered 3.2 grams of marijuana and two glass smoking pipes.

Traffic Stop Leads Cops to Marijuana

A man without registration tags was arrested, police said, after officers found marijuana in his possession.

When police saw a white Ford with no front registration driving near 91st Street and Pulaski Avenue at about 6:10 p.m., they smelled marijuana, according to police reports. Police arrested and charged Marcus Sumner, 34, of Chicago with possession of marijuana, having no valid driver’s license and no front registration plates. According to reports, Sumner had 3.5 grams of marijuana in his possession.

Man Arrested on Pot Possession, Traffic Charges

Hazel Crest resident Darnel D. Young was charged with possession of marijuana, improper display of registration and no proof of insurance, according to reports. Evergreen Park Police said they stopped Young at about 5:43 p.m at 98th Street and Western Avenue and found a baggie with a green leafy substance in his pants pocket that later tested to be marijuana weighing 5.6 grams.

Five-For-One at Walmart

Stephanie Y. Barnes, 32, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft at 1:01 p.m. According to police reports, Barnes took four cosmetics items valuing $32.36 from Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St., put them in her purse, then picked up a fifth item and paid for it. Police said Barnes left the store without paying for the other four items and security caught her.

MONDAY, SEPT. 5

Caught Green-Handed

Tony Gonzalez, 21, of Evergreen Park was charged with possession of marijuana. Police said after seeing a suspicious car driving near 93rd Street and California Avenue at 5:21 p.m., they spoke to the driver, Gonzales, and smelled a suspicious odor. According to the police report, police found four small plastic bags with a combined weight of 2.5 grams of marijuana in the center console of the car.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 4

Woman with a Warrant Arrested on Several Traffic Charges, Resisting Arrest

Shanika L. Williams, 23, of Chicago was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, having expired registration, improper use of registration, failure to transfer title and driving without insurance, police said. As officers were arresting Williams on the traffic violations and an apparent warrant, she twisted her body and pulled away, police said. According to reports, police stopped Williams at 98th Street and Campbell Avenue at 5:56 p.m. and took her into custody.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 3

Man who Admitted to Having a Warrant was Charged with Possession of Marijuana

Police said they saw a car with missing a headlight driving around 95th Street and Campbell Avenue at 9:34 p.m., and after speaking with the driver, found that the passenger gave a false name, date or birth and said he had no identification on him. According to reports, Floyd Gifford, 25, of Chicago Heights, told police there was an active warrant for his arrest from the Will County Sheriff. After confirming the warrant, police said they found a glass smoking bowl with marijuana residue, needles and a spoon rolled up in a sock under a rear seat. Police arrested and charged Gifford with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Walmart Retail Theft

Michael J. Teerling, 18, of Blue Island, was charged with retail theft. Police said at 4:39 p.m., someone saw Teerling take a Star Wars video game from the Walmart electronics department. According to reports, Teerling was stopped by security upon leaving the store.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 2

Protection Order Arrest

A man was arrested and accused of violating a protection order while in the 2600 block of 97th Place, police said. According to reports, the complainant said the man was seen in the area where her son was at school at about 6:07 p.m. Police charged Joseph M. Vorberg, 31, of Oak Lawn with violating an order of protection.
