Evergreen Park Police Reports, March 25-27.

SUNDAY, MARCH 27

Don't Drink and Steal at the Same Time

A drunk man ratted himself out after he stole a global positioning system valued at $250 from a woman's car, police said. Michael J. Manzi, 38, of Oak Forest, was charged with theft and criminal trespass to a vehicle, for unlawfully entering the woman's car and stealing her GPS.

According to reports, police were answering a call at Chi Tung restaurant, 9560 S. Kedzie Ave., for a disturbance. A woman was complaining that she saw Manzi stumbling around and bumping into her car while it was parked, and then saw him get in the front passenger seat, according to police. Police said Manzi jumped into the victim's car and refused to leave. When the officers got there, they said Manzi was walking southbound on Kedzie. Police stopped Manzi and smelled alcohol on him and noticed that he had trouble standing on his own, according to police reports. The victim identified Manzi as the offender, police said. While arresting Manzi, police said he left a brown paper bag on top of a nearby garbage can, and asked officers, "Could you get my bag?" According to police, the bag contained the woman's GPS system.

Tactical officers were on patrol at the 96th Street and Western Avenue intersection when they saw Marshall running from the store manager at about 6:08 p.m. Officers chased Marshall to 96th Street and Bell Avenue, where they caught him. While taking him into custody, Marshall dropped two gold chains valued at $3,000, police said. According to the store manager, Marshall was in the store and asked for two 10-karat gold necklaces, then took them and fled out of the store. Police said the crime was a felony because of the value of the gold chains.
