Police Blotter: Cops Spot Pot, Pipes and Retail Thefts

Evergreen Park Police reports: Feb. 24-March 1

THURSDAY, MARCH 1

Police Find Controlled Substance

charged Michael A. Campion, 18, of Chicago, with felony possession of a controlled substance. According to reports, he had .5 mg of Clonazepam tablets.

At 11:26 a.m., police said they saw Champion traveling in a car as a passenger going southbound on Western Avenue in the 9100 block. Police said the driver provided an ID card, but no insurance. According to reports, police found two baggies on the ground near the car, then later saw marijuana residue on the floor of the car and a pill bottle in the glove compartment. “Inside the pill bottle was a small plastic bag that contained five pills,” police said. “Campion alleged that the pills belonged to a friend,” according to reports. Police said they charged the driver with traffic violations.

TUESDAY, FEB. 28

Cops Spot Pot and Marijuana Pipe

According to reports, police arrested Robert J. Russell, 18, of Evergreen Park, and charged him with unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said he had 8.3 grams of marijuana and a large glass pipe used to inhale marijuana. While conducting surveillance in the 9900 block of Spaulding Avenue at 3:22 p.m., Police said they saw a 2006 Subaru in the area, with cracked windshield. As they stopped the car at 99th Street and Kedzie Avenue, “the driver moved his hand up and down several times near the center console in the driver’s seat.” Police said Russell admitted to having a pipe and smoking marijuana. According to reports, Russell was also charged with no valid insurance and a defective windshield.

MONDAY FEB. 27

Speeding Woman Reported Giving False ID

Evergreen Park Police said a woman gave them false identification because she had a warrant and was trying not to get arrested.

According to reports, police charged Kenyana L. Porter, 29 of Chicago with obstructing identification, driving with no insurance, unsafe equipment, and speeding and driving while license suspended. Police said she gave a false name, residence and date of birth after they arrested her. According to reports, at 1:26 a.m., police stopped Porter because they saw her driving 49 mph in a 30 mph zone on 95th Street. Porter gave the cops false information and only revealed her true identity after police fingerprinted her, according to reports.

SATURDAY, FEB. 25

Man Seen Lifting DVD’s from Walmart

James H. Williams, 23, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Police said he took four items valued at $34.96, from Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St. According to reports, at 11:37 p.m., store security saw Williams stuff four DVD movies in his coat after discarding the cases. Store security caught him upon exiting, police said.

Two Women Caught Taking Items from Walmart

According to Evergreen Park Police, two women were caught taking items from Walmart. Police arrested Jasmine M. Massey, 18, of Chicago and Tequilla M. Simmons, 19, of Chicago, and charged them with retail theft. Williams took one pair of eye lashes valued at $9.98 and Simmons took two books and one pair of yoga pants totaling $24.11, according to reports.

At 6:40 p.m., police said they saw four subjects selecting various items and putting them in their purses. The other two were juveniles, according to reports. Police said store security caught them upon exiting.

FRIDAY, FEB. 24

Cops Catch Man With Heroin

Pawel W. Skubisz, 19, of Burbank was arrested and charged with felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Police said he had 1.1 grams of heroin. According to reports, at about 12:26 p.m. police saw Skubisz driving a 1994 Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on Western Avenue in the 9700 block, crossing over the lanes. When they ran the plates, police said they found that Skubisz had an invalid drivers license. As police stopped the car at 99th Street and Western Avenue they said Skubisz threw three small items out of his window. Tactical officers recovered three small Ziplock bags which tested positive for heroin, police said. Police said Skubicz was also charged with improper lane usage, no valid driver’s license and no valid insurance.

Woman Charged with Driving a Stolen Car

Police charged Stacey J. Sims, 40, of Chicago, with criminal trespass to a vehicle. According to reports, she drove a 2006 Ford Taurus belonging to Kingdom Chevy. While officers were driving westbound on 94th Street near Springfield Avenue at 10:24 p.m. they saw the driver in front of them was driving at a fast pace, according to police. When they ran the plates, police said they found out that the vehicle was stolen. According to reports, Sims said the car had been given to her by a friend and she “allegedly had no idea it had been stolen.” Police also charged Sims with no valid insurance, suspended license and speeding.
