Carson's Employee Gives Customer Steal of a Deal
Tamaris Ross, 19, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at 5:19 p.m. at Carson Pirie Scott in The Plaza, 9500 S. Western Ave. Police said Ross, an employee at Carson’s, was being detained by loss prevention, who said that his cash register was $7,461.17 short on Aug. 14. Loss prevention agents said they observed three suspicious transactions with the same customer after observing the surveillance video. Police said the surveillance video showed a customer initiating those three transactions.
According to reports, a customer went to Ross’ cash register twice with several items of clothing totaling $643.68, which Ross rung up in the register. Police said the third time the customer returned, they purchased six gift cards and Ross placed $1,000 on each card.

When loss prevention discovered a shortage in Ross’ cash register, he admitted to ringing up the clothing items and charging half the amount owed, and he said he returned the money from the first transaction and allowed the customer to leave the store, the report said. Police also said Ross rang up $6,000 worth of gift cards but received only $50 from the customer.

Police Say Woman Lied About False Check Cashing, Forgery
Karen O’Connor, 57, of Evergreen Park, was charged with disorderly conduct on Aug. 12 at about 1:30 p.m., stemming from an incident that took place on Aug. 11.
According to police reports, O’Connor went to the Evergreen Park Police Department and reported that she was contacted by her bank for having an overdrawn account. O’Connor said she believed that a friend who had been staying with her was cashing checks using her signature. Upon investigation, officers said they went to the two locations where the checks were cashed, and both clerks said O’Connor was the one who tried to cash the checks. On Aug. 12, police said detectives went to O’Connor’s home and arrested her for disorderly conduct. The two checks totaled $67.15, police said.
