Police Blotter: Bandana Bandit and Game-Loving Thieves

Evergreen Park Police reports: June 24

For the Love of the Game

Armand W. Grant, 20, of Chicago was charged with retail theft after police said he took a video game from Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St., valued at $59.96. Devalon A. Payne, 20, of Chicago was charged with retail theft. He's accused of taking one PC game valued at $49.96. Police said the two men took the items at about 1:43 p.m., went into the auto section and hid them in the fronts of their pants.

Run Tommy, Run

Thomas G. Nowak, 28, of Mokena, was charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia. Police said around 6:24 p.m., officers saw Nowak run across six lanes of traffic on 95th Street across from the Cavatappi restaurant parking lot, 3020 W. 95th St. He was almost hit by several cars. When officers stopped him, he said he was helping a friend park in the parking lot, police said. After a pat-down search police said they found a used syringe in Nowak’s pocket, a metal cooking plate with black residue and an empty cigarette pack. At the station, officers removed a small 0.2 gram package of heroin from Nowak’s wallet, according to police.

Bandana Bandit

Holly E. Ziegler, 60, of Evergreen Park was charged with retail theft. She's accused of taking eight items valued at $38.50 from Walmart. Police said Ziegler took bandanas, a print tunic and two dresses from the store at about 9:52 p.m. According to police reports, she selected the items and placed them in a plastic Walmart bag, then left the store.
