Pair from Evergreen Park Charged in Father's Day Stabbings

One man was charged in the stabbing of a 19-year-old victim, police said. The second victim has not been able to identity his attacker.

Authorities say two Evergreen Park men charged in a double stabbing from last weekend lived at the house where the attack took place.

A 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were hospitalized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after they were stabbed at a house party in the 9600 block of Utica Avenue, police said. Witnesses reported seeing the entire block shut down by police, who were called at around 1:30 a.m. on June 16 to investigate a disturbance.

London L. Grant, 23, of the 9600 block of Utica, is charged with aggravated battery, Evergreen Park police said. He is accused of stabbing a 19-year-old man five times at a party early in the morning on Father's Day. A second man, Atland V. Caruth, Jr., 21, also of the 9600 block of Utica, was charged with battery and felony criminal damage to government property. Police said he punched the 20-year-old stabbing victim and, later, flooded a toilet in an Evergreen Park holding cell while in police custody.

Caruth also allegedly was found with a .38 handgun that he wasn't licensed to have and charged with possession of a weapon without a Firearm Owners Identification Card, police said.

Authorities said the 20-year-old couldn't identity who stabbed him. Police have not charged anyone in that specific attack.

The 19-year-old was stabbed four times on his body and one time in his left arm, police said.

Bail for Grant was set at $200,000. He remains in Cook County Sheriff's custody. His next court date is set for July 15 in the Bridgeview courthouse.
