No Injuries in Afternoon House Fire

A fire broke out in a home on the 9700 block of California Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

There are no injuries, but a fair amount of damage after a fire broke out Thursday afternoon in a home on the 9700 block of California Avenue.

No one was home when the fire started near the bathroom of the home around 1:30 p.m., said Evergreen Park Fire Chief Ronald Kleinhaus.

The fire was extinguished in about five minutes and most of the damage was concentrated around the bathroom and one bedroom, Kleinhaus said. However, there was smoke damage throughout the home.

The fire was contained to the corner house and did not spread. While a truck from Oak Lawn responded to the blaze, it was sent back as Evergreen Park firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire, Kleinhaus said.
