Markham Man One of Two Accused in 2012 Home Invasion: Police

Mitchell Thurman, 33, was extradited from Arkansas last week, police said. He faces one count of home invasion.

A Markham man suspected in a 2012 home invasion in Evergreen Park was indicted last week.

Mitchell Thurman, 33, of the 16400 block of Trumbull Avenue, was extradited to Illinois on June 26, Evergreen Park police said. He faces one count of home invasion.

Police say Thurman is one of two men who forced their way into a Sacramento Avenue home on Jan. 31, 2012, and demanded drugs or money from a person living there. A 3-year-old boy also was in the home at the time of the invasion.

During the home invasion, the adult victim was struck in the head with a gun, police said.

Thurman was identified as a suspect on Feb. 9, 2012, after police captured Kenard McCollum, 45, of the 16200 block of Sawyer, Markham. Police said a witness picked McCollum out of lineup as one of the attackers.

McCollum also was charged with home invasion last year.

Thurman remained at large until June, police said. Police executed a warrant for his arrest on June 15 in Arkansas. He remains in custody at the Cook County jail. Bail was set at $200,000.
