Man Tossed Bags Of Pot While Running From Cops: Police

A Blue Island man tried to outrun Evergreen Park officers after jumping out of a car on Aug. 23 and tossing a couple of bags filled with marijuana, police said.

Roman A. Rangel, 22 of the 12100 block of Gregory Street, Blue Island, and Nicholas J. Fernandez, 23, of the 8600 block of South 82nd Court, Hickory Hills, were charged with possessing more than 58 grams of marijuana, Evergreen Park police said.

Rangel, who also was charged with fleeing police, was a passenger in a car driven by Fernandez at about 4:58 p.m. on Aug. 23 , police said. Officers stopped the car near the intersection of 93rd and Troy streets after seeing two people inside acting suspiciously.

During the stop, Rangel got out and ran toward 93rd Street and Albany Avenue, police said. He was arrested after a short foot chase.

Rangel also allegedly threw plastic bags filled with a substance that later tested positive for marijuana, police said.
