Police said they got a report of someone running who might have been armed with a handgun. Evergreen Park police set up a perimeter in the area of Western Avenue to catch Delaney. Reports said that an off-duty Chicago police sergeant, who saw Delaney hiding outside at 8956 S. Oakley St., took Delaney into custody. When the sergeant nabbed him, Delaney did not have a gun.
According to police, Delaney was charged with obstructing identification for providing a fictitious name and date of birth. He did so, police said, because he was attempting to escape an outstanding no-bond warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections for parole violation.
