High School Student Breaks Fellow Student's Jaw, Charged with Aggravated Battery
Police said two students got into a scuffle, and one broke the other's jaw.
An Evergreen Park teen was charged with aggravated battery after punching a juvenile and breaking his jaw at Evergreen Park Community High School, according to police.
Police said Evergreen Park resident Josiah M. Shiel, 18, was charged with aggravated battery at 5:30 p.m. on April 21. According to reports, Shiel intentionally caused great bodily harm by punching the victim two times from behind with a closed fist in at least one place, breaking his jaw and causing permanent disability.
Police said Shiel had words with the victim after track practice in the high school hallway, and then jumped on the victim’s back. The victim was able to push Shiel off and told him his back was hurting and to leave him alone, police said.

According to reports, the two exchanged more words, the victim pushed Shiel away and, as the victim was walking away, Shiel jumped on his back, reached around and punched him in his right jaw.
The victim was admitted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, police said.
