Man Accidentally Drops Bag of Heroin at Police Station

It was bad timing for one Chicago man who just couldn't catch a break after a routine traffic stop. 

On Sunday, Feb. 17 at about 10:55 a.m. a truck was pulled over after driving 51 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 9700 block of Western Avenue, police said. Driving the car was Jeffrey R. Kolb, 39, of Chicago and in the passenger seat was Michael T. O'Donnell, 32, of Chicago.

A unit from both Chicago and Evergreen Park police departments were present for the stop. The Chicago officer had the passenger get out of the car at which point he discovered that O'Donnell was in possession of three syringes and one metal pipe with drug residue, police said.  

He was placed under arrest and taken to the Evergreen Park police station. Meanwhile, Kolb was cited for driving without insurance and speeding. After the stop, Kolb could not get the truck to start and he was given a ride to the station so he could post bond, police said.

Kolb was placed in a report room at the station. While in the presence of an officer a baggie dropped from his pant leg, police said. When the officer questioned him about it Kolb responded that "it was not his," police said.

After the officer begin to search Kolb another bag fell out of his jacket, police said. The bags were found to contain .7 grams of heroin, police said.

Kolb was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, speeding and no valid insurance. O'Donnell was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a hypodermic device.
