Half Pound of Weed Recovered During Traffic Stop: Blotter

A pair of men in a Chevy Tahoe were charged with possession of marijuana on June 18.

Two men face drug possession charges after officers allegedly found them with more than half a pound of pot, police said.

Gregory M. Sims, 32, of the 2000 block of 17th Avenue, Rockford, was charged with felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to an Evergreen Park blotter.

Police said Sims was the driver in a 96 Chevy Tahoe stopped at about 5:22 p.m. on June 18 near the intersection of 95th Street and Western Avenue, according to the report.

Officers uncovered 256.8 grams of marijuana from inside the SUV they smelled a strong odor of the drug coming from the vehicle, the report states. Sims allegedly told police he had a large bag of marijuana under a seat.

A passenger in the SUV, Jamie S. Huntington, 20, of the 800 block of Rhomberg Avenue, Dubuque, Iowa, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to a report. He told officers he had a roach, which reportedly contained 2.1 grams of marijuana, in his pocket.
