Flood Advisory in Effect for Evergreen Park

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Evergreen Park, in addition to a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 a.m.

The heat has calmed down a bit in town, but thunderstorms have revved up Tuesday morning with potentially damaging winds and warnings of floods.

The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory and severe thunderstorm watch for Evergreen Park and other Cook county towns in northeast Illinois, in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, temperatures are expected to reach 86 degrees with a low of 73 in the evening.

At around 6:07 a.m., the NWS's doppler radar saw thunderstorms with heavy rainfall moving toward the area producing rainfall in excess of one inch per 30 to 45 minutes. The severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The NWS says runoff from the rainfall may cause minor flooding, especially near low water crossings and small streams. Officials warn residents:

  • Do not attempt to cross bridges, dips or other low spots if water covers the roadway.
  • Never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one, on foot or in a vehicle.
  • Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business.

Morning thunderstorms will impede travel conditions. Use Patch's Commute section to plan your commute accordingly. It includes real-time traffic updates in addition to road closures and construction projects.

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect and says along with Tuesday morning thunderstorms, there are chances for thunderstorms Wednesday morning and evening through Friday. "There is a small chance for severe storms Wednesday morning in areas of far northern and northeastern Illinois," says the NWS. On Thursday, a chance for severe storms is expected to spread back across the entire area.

Additionally, the temperature will have a high of 98 degrees with heat indices expected to top 105 degrees on Wednesday.

Somehow I survived yet another "run for the hills" storm :-)

Funny guy! It was actually pretty bad on my end. While the storm didn't last too long, lightning struck our huge front lawn tree, making it split and take down half of our rain gutter. Yikes!

Homeowners insurance covers lightning strikes? Many years ago we lost a huge section of a tree to wind damage (actually blew over the top of the house!) but insurance would not cover it. Of course if you have a large deductible the tree removal price may be cheaper than the deductible.
BTW, only 1/2'' of rain so not much chance of flooding.

Either you know him personally or you own a business in the community. Otherwise how could youRead More condone a guy that has singlehandedly contributed in the skyrocketing of property taxes, the closing of local businesses in favor of corporate big boxes that make no promise to hire residents, and crime rates through the roof? The village has gone from the family friendly "village of churches" to a concrete jungle that gouges lifelong residents that can't even keep their windows open at night anymore. Wake up.
