Vincent Churak, 67, was paddleboarding in Donnell Lake in Penn Township, Mich., when he fell off at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 20, WTTM-TV, a Michigan news station, reports. Witnesses say Churak appeared to be struggling in the water and called for help, the report stated. Churak, however, went under the water by the time people trying to help were able to reach him in the lake, the report added.

Rescue dive teams could not initially find Churak, and a helicopter from South Bend, Ind., was called in to help the effort, the report said. Divers eventually found Churak's body at about 1 p.m.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of death, the report stated.
