Chicago Archdiocese to Release Details on 'Sexual Misconduct' of 30 Priests

In a letter to Chicago's Catholics, Cardinal Francis George announced that documents detailing the sexual abuse settlements of 30 priests will be released to the public.

Documents detailing what the Chicago Archdiocese is calling the "sexual misconduct" of 30 priests will be released this week as part of a settlement made to the victims.

Cardinal Francis George penned a letter to Chicago area Catholics this weekend that detailed the steps the archdiocese is making to shed light on the abuse allegations made against dozens of its priests.

"Painful though publicly reviewing the past can be, it is part of the accountability and transparency to which the archdiocese is committed," Cardinal George writes.

Cardinal George says that for the past 20 years the church has reported all allegations of sexual abuse to the proper authorities and has turned over records when asked for them.

He also adds that parishioner donations are not used to make sexual abuse settlements. Instead, the archdiocese had been selling land which was originally purchased for possible expansion.
