Alleged Drunken Driver Drove with Broken Axle, Deployed Airbags: Blotter

Christine Y. Blades, 46, 200 block of South Torrence Avenue, Sauk Village, was charged with driving under the influence, failing to dim headlights, using unsafe equipment and driving with a defective window, according to a report. Blades was stopped at about 12:11 a.m. near 98th Street and Western Avenue after an officer noticed the vehicle brights were on. The officer also saw sparks coming from the rear of the vehicle. The car's axle may have been broken. Police reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol on the driver's breath and noticed that two airbags inside the car had deployed. She was arrested after performing field sobriety tests. Blades also refused to take a breath test, police said.

Marijuana With Intent to Deliver Charge

Tyre M. New, 20, of the 2100 block of West 77th Place, Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without insurance, improper use of a turn signal and driving with a defective windshield, according to a report. Police reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car when it was stopped at about 11:10 a.m. near 87th Street and Central Park Avenue. During a search, police found 25 baggies of what tested positive as 16.8 grams of marijuana and drug-related equipment.

Retail Theft Charge

Marquise I. Williams, 18, of the 700 block of East 92nd Street, Chicago, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. She is accused of taking $205 worth of clothing from The Collection, located in the 9500 block of Western Avenue.
