2 Burned in Alsip Chemical Plant Explosions, Fire

Two explosions at Blue Island Phenol leveled a building Friday, according to a report.

Two people were hospitalized with burns Friday following two explosions at an Alsip chemical plant, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Alsip's fire chief told the Tribune that the explosions at Blue Island Phenol LLC, which is located at 3350 W. 131st St., in Alsip, demolished one building and involved the chemicals propane, propylene and benzene.

Crews had the fire extinguished by 2:30 p.m., according to the report.
