I am glad to see that Brian Papa has returned to coaching. He knows the sport inside and out. He has a great deal to offer his teams.

Brian Papa is one of the best soccer coaches in all of Chicagoland. With the collapse of all of the sports programs at Central, I would hope it doesn't happen here at East. Getting a quality coach/man back in the coaching mix at East only helps the program. (No, I didn't have any sons play for Coach Papa.) Good luck to the girls varsity soccer team.

I have known Brian Papa for many years and come to admire him for not only his coaching but also his ability to push his players beyond what would be considered the norm. He sets an expectation level. His players work to reach that level. Guess what? They're learning a concept that applies in all walks of life.

Brian Papa coached me 15 years ago when he first began at Lincoln Way. I remember being so surprised that he was so admired and successful because he was so unpleasant as a coach, to me. As a player, I found his style of coaching females to be demeaning, aggressive, insensitive, and unsupportive. I functioned out of fear, I was desperate to get some kind of college opportunities from my 13 year soccer career. If I or any other players did not comply with or question Coach Papa's unreasonable demands, they would be "benched". I played soccer for 12 years before playing for Brian Papa, and he made me hate the game in one year. So players may like playing under him, but that certainly was not my experience. After playing 9 different sports over the course of 15 years, I have had more coaches that I could count....but Brian Papa without a doubt was the worst Coach I have ever had.

Also, I feel compelled to comment. He was an awful coach! He constantly screamed at us, girls were crying all the time, and he did not know that much.... The guy admitted, he never even played, that's why he recruits people that are great players! He is a potato shaped man that is just good at bullying teenagers.
