OPEN LETTER: OL Planning Commissioner Announces Run for 4th District Trustee

Tim Reilly has shared his letter to neighbors announcing his run for Oak Lawn Village Board's fourth district seat in April 2013.

My name is Tim Reilly and I am a candidate for Trustee of the 4th District in the village of Oak Lawn.  I am both excited and honored at the thought of serving the great people of this district in particular, as well as serving the entire Oak Lawn community as an honorable and dedicated member of the Oak Lawn Village Board of Trustees.  I truly believe I can make things better!

First, I am proud to have lived in Oak Lawn for 14 years as an active community member and concerned citizen.  I am a graduate of Saint Xavier University, a steel salesmen and a small business owner.  My wife Julie and I have raised three children here and feel fortunate to have had such a great environment for health, education, faith and civic involvement.

Highlights of my civic, parish and school involvement includes actively contributing to the following:

  • Oak Lawn Village Planning and Development Committee Member (5 years)
  • Oak Lawn Baseball and Girls Softball 1st VP, Fall Ball Coordinator, league manager, travel coach (10 years)
  • St. Germaine’s Holy Name Society, counting room, picnic committee, soup kitchen (8 years)
  • St. Germaine Finance Committee (3 years)
  •  Hannum School/Oak Lawn – Hometown Middle School PTA, classroom support, Market day, Fall Fest, social events (12 years)
  • St Rita Father’s Club (1 year)
  • Oak Lawn Village Senior Leaf Raking (4 years)
  • Oak Lawn Village Fall on the Green staff (4 years)
  • Oak Lawn Elk’s Club lodge member (5 years)

I stress “actively contributing” because I believe I must make an active, informed and impactful contribution.  Ironically, I am running for a political office yet, I have to be honest; I have never been motivated by politics.  I am motivated by the opportunity to work with others to make things better in whatever capacity the situation may dictate and my community involvement underscores my commitment.

Community involvement has provided a broad base of knowledge and positive interaction with many different organizations however more importantly the opportunity to work side-by-side with a huge group of fantastic Oak Lawn citizens.  I believe this is invaluable experience and is at the heart of working effectively as your new trustee.  When combined with my business acumen and ability to develop lasting, effective working relationships I am confident I have an outstanding skillset to serve this district now and into a very bright future.

My platform is active participation, timely communication and an informed, proactive mindset to stay ahead of issues.  I truly believe this approach will best serve this district and will clearly distinguish me from my opponents.  This communication is the first step towards achieving my goal to be the most active, most informative and most available trustee that the 4th District of Oak Lawn has ever had.  I thank you for your time.  I would be honored to serve you in this capacity!!

If you have any questions or feel the need to express any concerns whatsoever please do not hesitate to contact me at (708) 927- 9934 or treillyprg@yahoo.com

Tim Reilly

PS- You already have my statement of community involvement and experience to serve this district. After 40 months in office, what if anything do you know about the current trustee of the 4th District?

Mr. Reilly, what is your position on how Christ Hospital's expansion will impact Crawford Gardens and Oak Lawn? What is your position on service fees vs. lap pools? Will you resign from your committee at Christ Hospital? Why did you accept a position on a committee for Christ Hospital while you were voting on their requests for expansion at the same time? Why didn't you recuse yourself from voting on issues with Christ this year or even disclose that you served on a committee with them? Given your record of votes with P & D, what assurance would you give the residents of District 4 that you would represent them when each and every vote you made was in support of whatever the hospital was asking?

Tim Reilly, how were you appointed to the P&D commission? Was it through Tom Phelan and Bob Stret? Why would you run on a ticket with Dave Heilmann and split yourself from your other friends? Perhaps you are running because you would enjoy the insurance benefit (because your an independent salesman)? Or the small salary would help too? Please do not bother with the canned phrases (also when you write, don't say "to be honest with you" --- like you talking non-sense. You have no municipal experience, political muster, or add on benefit. Heck, I would think you don't even know your opponents (you say you offer more but cannot substantiate what that is???). I suggest you rethink this before you get hammered on the Christ Hospital relationship. Dave excellent choice (did you have any others???).

Hey, Beaver, before you spout off, why don't you read the minutes from the meeting that you didn't attend, or would you rather rely on bad info Debbie Fagan gets from Deetjen? Story from Southtown Star: Oak Lawn plan commission rejects massage business By Bob Rakow Correspondent November 5, 2012 11:30PM Updated: December 7, 2012 6:25AM "Oak Lawn planning commissioners voted 5-2 Monday night to reject a proposed therapeutic massage business in the village." That's THERAPEUTIC. As in medical. People who are licensed by the state. You are entitled to your own opinions, but not to your own facts. Douchebag.
