Honor a Fallen Hero, Find a Bargain: Get Out!

Looking for something to do in the village this weekend? Honor a fallen hero, do a little charity and find a few good bargains at a neighborhood yard sale.

This weekend has a wide variety of events that you can laugh, cry and even jump and shout at. Enjoy your weekend Evergreen Parkers!

1. 

An Evergreen Park family is hosting a yard sale at their home. Drop by to get tons of trendy trinkets at an extreme bargain. 

When: Friday, Oct. 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

2. 

Start your Saturday morning off honoring a hero. Army SPC. Jared Stanker, 22, died October 27 2009, after enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device, He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, out of
Fort Lewis, Washington. A street will be named after him near Circle Park.

When: Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8 a.m.

Where: , W 97th St & S Homan Ave

Cost: Free to attend

3. 

After you attend the street dedication for Spec. Stanker, walk across the field to the community center to see the Wall of Honor. The Patriot Guard Riders will display the Wall of Honor at the Hamilton B. Maher Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

When: Saturday, Oct. 22 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4. 

Later in the day, join the crew at Durbin's for a benefit for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. There will be raffles, Split the Pot, free pizza and appetizers. Live music will be by Martin & Tony

Where: , 10240 S Kedzie Ave.

5. 

Have a grade school kid interested in Basketball? The Offensive Skill Camp will put an emphasis on the important basketball skills if shooting, ball handling, passing and one-on-one moves. It is open to both boys and girls from 2nd to 8th grades.

When: Sunday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m.
