The Goal of Yoga

To embody yoga it needs to be practiced with clarity, wisdom and gentleness.

During our reflection time at my last yoga class I shared these thoughts with my students…  The Goal of yoga is to balance and align the body, mind and spirit harmoniously and to sustain that balance throughout the other phases of our life.  This requires discipline and patience.  To attempt it with force will create imbalance and injury.  To embody yoga it needs to be practiced with clarity, wisdom and gentleness.

Clarity, wisdom and gentleness, I asked the students to reflect on these words, take the practice with them and incorporate this into their daily routine.  Imagine the possibilities, to take a moment before acting or reacting to a situation, taking control of your actions, words and deeds, while shifting your energy and awareness.  As we continue down our path, our journey tends to be very hectic, complete with a lengthy to-do list.  It is easy to lose sight of our goals and intentions.  Yoga is called a practice because we are continually engaging in self growth every time we come to the mat.  Little by little we recognize the subtle changes, and with these changes comes growth as well as a wonderful sense of inner peace.

It is contagious; observe the behavior of your loved ones the next time you’re practicing your yoga with clarity, wisdom and gentleness.
