“Donate you new and used dresses to help young women in Illinois and Indiana”

Chicago. IL. –  Non-profit organization Princess Closet will be accepting donations of new and used formal and semi-formal gowns  in their annual Mirror Mirror, Dresses Dresses Marathon which begins on July 1, 2012 and ends on March 31, 2013.

Established in 2010, Princess Closet promotes self-confidence, individual beauty and diversity by providing new and virtually new prom dresses and accessories free to high school young ladies in need. The organization granted 825 prom wishes in 2012 alone – and won Hearst Magazines’ prestigious Purple Dress Award. This year they will also be awarding two $1,000 and (1) $500 scholarships to young female college bound students who completed an essay and demonstrated excellent leadership and community service skills.

In order for these ‘fairy godmothers’ to turn dresses into dreams and create belles of the ball, the organization needs help – they ask that women of Illinois look in their closets and pull out those fancy dresses, shoes, wraps, or clutches, and jewelry not in use and pass them on to young girls who will. They also distribute goody bags and accept various cosmetics, hair products, and gift cards.

Guidelines for donations:

  • Dresses should be less than 4 years old.
  • Dresses should be in neat, clean condition, preferably cleaned.
  • Shoes and accessories must be in good condition.
  • Cosmetics, nail polish, perfume must be unused.

All activities conducted by the organization, including donation drives, fundraising events and the giveaway event, are 100% dedicated to the charitable purpose of making prom a reality for any high school girl in Illinois.
