UPDATED: Flood Waters Receding in Evergreen Park After Heavy Morning Rains

Parts of the village are still flooded after Thursday morning's thunderstorm.

8:27 p.m.

Some residents were reporting that some seepage came into their basements.

The Village of Evergreen Park announced that with the help of Matteson-based Land and Lakes excavation services, it will pick up damaged items from the flood at no charge to residents.

1:45 p.m.

Millard Avenue between 95th and 96th Streets is now open.

1:10 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued an extended its flash flood warning for Southern Cook County, which includes Evergreen Park, until 5:30 p.m. Thursday. We can expect scattered thunderstorms this evening, that will become more widespread overnight, briefly producing large hail and damaging wind gusts.

11:50 a.m.

Residents reported flooding on Millard Avenue, between 95th and 96th Streets.

11:45 a.m.

After a heavy thunderstorm early Thursday, parts of Evergreen Park remained partially under water as of late morning.

Evergreen Park Fire Chief Ron Kleinhaus said Kedzie Avenue was closed earlier this morning as far south as 103rd Street due to flooding.

"I had to climb into my car window to get to work," he said.

The street is now open and there were no other reports of street closures in the village of Evergreen Park as of late Thursday morning.

Village Clerk Catherine Aparo said many residents have been calling to report flooded sewers. She says residents should call the Water Department directly at 708-424-6222.

Since the rains have stopped, Mayor James Sexton says the flood waters are "slowly receding," but he encourage residents to "clean the catch basins if they can," the storm drains usually sitting at curbs.

The heavy rains forced the village's weekly to close early today. It will, however, be open for business from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Thursday, at , at the intersection of West 89th Street and South Kedzie Avenue.

Village officials said residents should contact ComEd for more information in the event of a power outage. People can also sign up to get text-message alerts from ComEd about power outages.
