Storm Central: Updated School Closings, 7 to 10 Inches Possible

Area private high schools have already closed for Tuesday. Snowfall of up to 10 inches is possible.

Tuesday, 10:55 a.m. - Saint Xavier Universitywill shut down at 2 p.m. today and all classes after that time have been canceled. 

Monday - Several area schools have already announced plans to close Tuesday ahead of what could be the year's largest snowfall. 

Mother McAuley, Brother Rice, Marist, St. Ignatius, St. Rita and Southwest Chicago Christian Schools will be closed on Tuesday March 5, according to school officials.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that is in effect from 3 a.m. to midnight on Tuesday. Light snow is expected tonight and will become heavier Tuesday morning and throughout the day.

We can expect as much as seven to ten inches, according to the forecast. Accumulation could reach one to two inches an hour, making snow removal difficult.

The NWS also reports that winds might reach 25 to 30 mph, increasing the possibility of large snow drifts.
