Headliner: Christine Magnuson Hopes to Swim her Way to the Olympics

Tinley Park Native Olympic swimmer and silver medalist Christine Magnuson, 26, will compete next week in time trials that could qualify her for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. She's this week's Headliner.

Christine Magnuson is embarking on a life-changing experience this week--for the second time. She's vying for a space on the 2012 U.S. Summer Olympic swimming team. The 26-year-old medalist will be competing at time trials in Omaha, Ne., on Monday, June 25 with the full support of her family, friends and hometown, Tinley Park.

"It's kind of one of those weird things," said Magnuson, who earned two silver medals in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China—one in the 100-meter butterfly and one in the four-by-100 meter medley. "I'm sure I'll be a little bit nervous when I get there. Obviously, you hope for the best."

As a longtime swimmer who graduated from  and later, the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, Magnusun said she'll only continue her professional swimming career if she qualifies for the next Olympic team.
