Headliner: Arlene Astrowski Spearheads Effort to Sponsor Goat in Haiti

As director of religious education for Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Evergreen Park, Arlene Astrowski said this year's Vacation Bible School mission project would raise $150 to sponsor a goat for a family living in Haiti.

When 's director of religious education Arlene Astrowski was researching mission projects for this year's Vacation Bible School participants, one effort pulled on her heartstrings.

Her son, a Lutheran minister, went to Haiti to aid after an earthquake struck the area in 2010. After he returned home, a USA Weekend article about donating to relief efforts came across her desk. She took that as a divine sign that she should be involved.

"My son got home from his mission trip and described the devastation. At the same time, I saw the article," said Astrowski. "I knew then that that was our project."
