Village Treats Standing Water For Mosquitoes In West Nile Virus Prevention Efforts

After Mayor James Sexton's battle with West Nile Virus, the fight against its spread has a local face.

Village crews have begun to treat catch basins around Evergreen Park for mosquitoes.

The measures are being taken as a precaution against any bugs that might be carrying the West Nile Virus. While village crews are working, Mayor Jim Sexton says residents need to do their part too.

"Residents need to be diligent around there own homes," Sexton said.

He urges everyone to take down things like unused swimming pools that may be breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

While the village is handling the catch basins, the Mosquito Abatement District regularly treats larger bodies of water in Evergreen Park. All of this is an issue very close to Sexton, who survived a serious bout of West Nile Virus last year

"I am living proof that this is serious stuff," Sexton said.
