Eggsquisite: Who Makes the Best Omelet?

Patch searched for the best omelet in the Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn and Palos area in this week's edition of “Chowdown Showdown.”

Welcome to “Chowdown Showdown,” a weekly feature where we take one type of food and ask readers to nominate their favorite places in Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn and Palos. This week's food in focus was the omelet. We tallied the votes on each respective Patch site and Facebook page.

Fluffy or grilled omelets aren't just for breakfast anymore.

Evergreen Park Patch -  I just love a good omelet. Golden Griddle had most of the votes in Evergreen Park and now I know why. Their omelet had the most beautiful presentation, with a healthy helping of veggies and oozing with cheddar cheese. The mushrooms and turkey sausage sent this one over the top for me. - 5 Stars

Oak Lawn Patch - Bursting with brightness thanks to a fine presentation of veggies and flavor, this omelete was of the fluffy, baked variety. I loved the turkey sausage which added a nice blast of sage. 5 Stars.

Palos Patch - This was the thickest of the three omelets that we tasted. A delicate French-style omelet this is not. The dense texture and loaded veggies are sure to leave you full no matter what time of day you eat breakfast.  4.5 Stars

Royalberry Waffle House - Palos

Evergreen Park Patch - This was truly a tasty treat. Royalberry's veggie omelet was full of flavor and didn't require any additional salt or pepper.  4.5 Stars

Oak Lawn Patch -A nice canvas of eggs, veggies and cheese makes Royalberry a serious contender in any omelet competition. The veggies were nicely balanced, fresh and crunchy. 4.5 Stars

Palos Patch - I loved both the flavor and texture of this omelet. They were very generous with the cheddar and the veggies were soft and perfectly cooked. Omelets can sometimes be a bit dried out, but the texture of Royalberry's creation was creamy and spot on. 5 Stars

Evergreen Park Patch - This omelet had a generous helping of cheddar cheese and broccoli. Although it had no onions, it still provided a nice twist to the traditional veggie omelet. 4.5 Stars

Oak Lawn Patch - I've eaten omelets at just about every fine Oak Lawn eating establishment and loved them all. I have no preferences for the fluffy or grilled. We got lots of great reader recommendations for (the omelets are as big as your head), , , (winner of Patch's Best Pancake Chowdown Showdown), and Our Oak Lawn contender was grilled omelet, chockful of broccoli and cheese. A traditional omelet perfect for consuming at 3 a.m. after a night of drinking and karaoke. 4 Stars.

Palos Patch - The veggies in this omelet were great and it had a nice flavor. It was a bit overcooked for my taste, but I can see how the unique texture and taste would win it some fans. 4 Stars

And the winner is  . . . Golden Griddle from Evergreen Park! This was unanimous. With a beautiful presentation, blend of veggies, cheddar cheese and turkey sausage, this omelet was eggstraordinary!

I think Mayor Sexton and the trustees are doing a fine job of keeping our community going. EvenRead More through his illness things continued to run smoothly. Thank you to all the government officials who keep Evergreen Park a GREAT COMMUNITY to live and work in!

Either you know him personally or you own a business in the community. Otherwise how could youRead More condone a guy that has singlehandedly contributed in the skyrocketing of property taxes, the closing of local businesses in favor of corporate big boxes that make no promise to hire residents, and crime rates through the roof? The village has gone from the family friendly "village of churches" to a concrete jungle that gouges lifelong residents that can't even keep their windows open at night anymore. Wake up.
