Business Comings & Goings: Famous Dave's Coming to 95th Street

Home Run Inn is expected to open its newest location in October at 109th Street and Western Avenue in Beverly/Mt. Greenwood. Oak Lawn Ice Arena celebrates grand re-opening on Thursday.

Minnesota-based Famous Dave’s restaurant chain earlier this month signed a lease for a 3,600-square-foot barbecue restaurant at 2851 W. 95th St. in the former Little Gym at Evergreen Pointe shopping center.

The Evergreen Park Village Board approved a business license and wine and beer liquor license for Famous Dave’s back in April.

The restaurant is now hiring managers and other employees. Job candidates can apply online at Famous Dave’s Evergreen Park.

Once open, hours will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The chain operates more than 170 restaurants in the United States. The nearest one is in Orland Park.

Oak Lawn Ice Arena Holds Re-Grand Opening

which was closed for the summer to allow workers time to install a new air conditioning system and to redo the ice, will hold its grand re-opening from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday at 9320 Kenton Ave. in Oak Lawn.

There will be a $1 admission for open skate with free skate rental and free mini-lessons, games and raffles. The arena will be offering registration discounts for skating classes that will begin next month.

Lemonade Stand for Local Worthy Causes

Three students--Charley, Trevor and Owen--will be holding a lemonade stand at 10345 S. Tripp Ave. in Oak Lawn from 3-6 p.m. Thursday to raise money for a pair of local worthy causes.

Part of the money raised will go to help buy medical equipment for St. Catherine's classmant, fourth-grader Jack DeMatteo, who is battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The medical equipment will help Jack with his mobility and ability to climb stairs.

Part of the money will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help all kids battling the disease.

Charley, Trevor and Owen will be selling lemonade, popcorn, candy and some other goodies.

Fairplay Foods Update

at 87th Street and Cicero Avenue, is now hiring employees for the new store.

Vice president of retail operations Mike Kozlowski from noon to 8 p.m. Sept 7 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 8. He said job candidates can fill out an application online and bring it with them to the Oak Lawn location on those dates or drop it off at a nearby Fairplay store, 6620 W. 111th St. in Worth or 8631 W. 95th St. in Hickory Hills.

He declined to say when the store would be opening.

In an earlier interview, Kozlowski said that when ready, the new Fairplay will feature a bakery and hot food department, expanded produce and deli departments as well as the company’s trademark fresh meat department.

“We concentrate on our fresh meat department,” Kozlowski said. “It’s one of the things we’re known for; great quality.”

The store was recently awarded a package liquor license by the village.

The Oak Lawn store will be almost 52,000 square feet, which would make it one of the bigger stores for the 40-year-old chain.

Fairplay has three locations on Chicago’s South Side as well as suburban locations in Hickory Hills, Worth, Markham and Dolton.
