Band Says Bar Owner Cut Show Short Because of Too Many Black Patrons

The Reprieve Blues Band claims the owner wasn't pleased with the audience, and stopped the band from finishing their set.

Members of a Chicago band claim a bar owner asked them to stop playing at a Beverly bar because they had attracted too many black patrons.

The Reprieve Blues Band was two sets into their show Saturday night at McNally's, located at 11136 S. Western Ave., when the group's only black member Brandon Bailey says the bar owner told another member that he didn't want them to keep playing because "there are too many black people in here."

Bailey's friends and family flocked to the bar for the show and approximately 30 percent of the audience was black.

"I didn't initially understand what would be the cause for this kind of response," Bailey told NBC. "We were having a great time, our fans were having a great time, but our third set was short. Why?"

Patch's repeated calls to the bar went unanswered. The owner was not available to comment to NBC, but a bartender told the station it wasn't true.

I think this is just awful, it's bad enough that south siders have a reputation of being red neck thugs then to have an example like this doesn't help. That said, I was told on Facebook yesterday when I voiced my disgust with this story that it has been blown out of proportion and there are 2 sides. I would really love to know the 2nd side. My opinion is still the same, if this cop owner of a bar (still wrapping my head around that) said anything that made this man feel this way that is not right and there is no real justification. If patrons were misbehaving then I don't know call the police. As I said, interested in the bar side.

Why don't you read this guys blog and marvel at all the racially charged articles he writes. Then ask yourself if this Brandon doesn't have an agenda. Don't be a fool, Judith.

The bar shares the property with apartments and houses right behind it. Somebody complained of the noise and he shut them down. Big deal it's not a criminal offense do if you don't like it take a hike! Smells of ghetto lottery

Don’t feel bad Brandon Bailey right down the street is The Original Pancake House 10437 S Western Ave Chicago, IL 60643, where every time my family walks in we get dirty looks from the black customers because we are Caucasian people. Racism is alive and well.

this is funny, cause all the whites, and bar owner(irish democRATS) and the blacks that showed up(democRATS) would all sit around ,and sing kumbaya. see I used to live in the puke 19th. ward, and most of the whites there will tell you about the love for them, but don't dare come in my bar. I never was a dummycRAT,cause all they do is waste your tax dollars, like fat pat quinn who pays people the march with him in parades, just pee tax dollars away to put on a good show.
Dan February 26, 2014 at 12:00 PM
besides, who pays 4 dollars for bottle of beer? dummies do.

Can you site a source for that Joe? I read 4 articles from 4 different publications and none of them say anything about noise complaints...
Roy Keane February 26, 2014 at 03:47 PM
@Sevs This is a casual Comment board open for discussion. We are not in a college classroom and the guy is not writing a term paper. There is absolutely zero need for him to provide a source. Either retort based on discussion or don't believe him.
Roy Keane February 26, 2014 at 03:49 PM
@Sevs After all, if citing sources was important you'd have provided the sources for those 4 articles you supposedly read. Alas, you didn't.
Sevs February 26, 2014 at 04:13 PM
If you'd like them I'll provide them. I'm not calling him a liar or saying they are necessary here, I was simply asking for it. Relax.
Joe Kocur February 26, 2014 at 05:00 PM
Sevs- I read that on truenews! Careful on thst site. It's known to hurt peoples feelings that do not like hearing the truth.

Be it as it may, this racial drum beating whiner's diatribe now has more holes in the than Swiss cheese. His credibility is eroding steadfastly. I hope he issues an apology and retraction soon or may he get sued for slander.
Roy Keane February 26, 2014 at 05:41 PM
@Sevs no hard feelings. Sorry if that was too forward.
Sevs February 27, 2014 at 11:27 AM
@Joe thanks, I'll check that site out. My minds not closed. I embrace new data supporting a different way of thinking. Consider keeping yours open as well. @Roy none taken.
