Evergreen Park Sees one of Destiny's Children

Celebrity Siting: Actress, R&B artist and entrepreneur LeToya Luckett popped up in Evergreen Park over the weekend.

Fans who loved Destiny's Child in its earlier years got a special treat this past weekend.

Former member LeToya Luckett stopped by Saturday for a two-hour meet and greet with fans and a live broadcast with Chicago radio station 107.5 WGCI while promoting Luster's Pink Brand Smooth Touch hair products.

As the newest face of the product line, Luckett said, she's happy to represent an African-American hair care brand, because "I think it's important for African Americans to know that there's something out there for them [to use]."

The company kicked off its 2011 activities with the brand in the Chicago area, where Luster Products has been based for more than 50 years.

"Walmart — and that particular location in Evergreen Park — is a valued customer in terms of the business it does on the Smooth Touch New Growth Relaxer Kits. It's really like a 'thank-you' to the account overall," said Smooth Touch Brand Manager Theresa Stevenson. "We wanted to reward them with this fabulous appearance in bringing our celebrity spokesperson there."

In addition to photos and autographs, fans received gift bags with free Luster's products. One lucky fan, Gail Denton, won a gift basket filled with about $75 worth of Luster's Pink Brand Smooth Touch hair care.

WGCI Radio personality Consuella Williams, who interviewed Luckett live in-studio Friday, hosted the event from Walmart.

"That's what attracted me to come," said Denton. "I came to support WGCI and ended up winning!"

Luckett has been the face of the brand since July 2010. She's scheduled to release her third solo album this fall, and will appear in an independent feature film, From the Rough, in September. Luckett currently appears in episodes of an HBO drama, Treme, and also owns her own boutique, Lady L, based in Houston.

“LeToya Luckett is beautiful, successful and multitalented, and Luster Products is pleased to have chosen her to be the brand ambassador for Smooth Touch,” said Jory Luster, president of Luster Products. “We look forward to the continued evolution of the Smooth Touch brand and are excited that LeToya will be a part of that.”
