Village Unlocking the Wonders of the Human Brain

Mayor James Sexton approved a request to declare next month "Brain Awareness Month."

Evergreen Park will soon see a newly-themed month with a plethora of events focusing on the body's control system.

At the, Mayor James Sexton declared the month spanning from March 30, 2011 through April 30, 2011, Brain Awareness Month.

"There are quite a few activities over the course of the 31 days," said Sexton.

The events are sponsored by the Brain Awareness Initiative of Evergreen Park, a group coordinated by educator and long-time Evergreen Park resident

"This is the first year Evergreen Park is an official brain awareness partner," said Miritello. "So I've organized all of these collaborators."

Although it's the Village's first time recognizing Brain Awareness Month, Miritello said The Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives and the Society for Neuroscience have been sponsoring a brain awareness initiative for the past 15 years.

Both school districts, Senior Citizen's Council, the and the will host events during Brain Awareness Month.

Miritello said she's happy to help educate the village on such a complex part of the human body, and to unlock some of the mystery that it holds.

"We have such gifts and powers in our brain that God has given us, and the more we know about the wonders and the powers of the brain," said Miritello, "the more we can use our God-given ability to not only strive to reach our highest potential, but to help others, as well."
