PHOTOS: Trick-or-Treaters Brave the Cold In Candy Hunt

Full-sized candy bars and a garage dungeon make Halloween memorable for youngsters in Oak Lawn and Mt. Greenwood. Check out Patch's Halloween photo gallery.

There were a lot of winter jackets worn over Disney princess and Spiderman costumes but the cold weather didn't scare off hundreds of trick-or-treaters that descended upon Oak Lawn and Mt. Greenwood on Wednesday afternoon.

The big draw in Oak Lawn was the Krickl garage on Kildaire, where a mannequin was getting zapped in an electric chair. Mr. Krickl, known for his legendary Halloween displays, and a pal were in a cage lunging at kids as they reached through bars for candy.

"It's just pretend," a mother said to her frightened daughter costumed as Mickey Mouse. "That's Mr. Krickl."

The young girl, who looked to be about three years old, watched from a safe distance on the sidewalk as mom went to get some candy from Mr. Krickl/Michael Myers.

At another Oak Lawn home, a woman tossed candy down to trick-or-treaters from a second-story window.

Over in Mt. Greenwood, a parade of goblins took over 111th Street for the Mt. Greenwood Chamber of Commerce's annual Halloween Safety Walk.

Children strolled the streets with their parents hitting up businesses for treats.

I totally agree, P Flan. We need more Mr. Krickl's to make childhood fun again.

Lorraine - I love ya to pieces but the headline was too much! Poor kids BRAVING the cold to get free candy! (The brave people are on the East Coast right now). :D

I would have liked to have seen other areas of Oak Lawn trick-or-treaters make the Patch news as well.
