Smarts, Arts and Fun Prizes: Get Out

Get out and have a good time in the Southland this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1.

Where/when: Demma’s Bar and Grill, 5805 W. 87th St. in Oak Lawn, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.

Why Go: Oak Lawn Community High School Scholastic Bowl, Chess Team and Mathletes team will host their first ever Trivia Bowl in an effort to raise money for their programs, but also to give everyone a chance to win prizes and show off their smarts.  All are welcome to play. Teams should consist of no more than eight players. Anyone can participate.  First place will be awarded $200; second place will receive $150; and third place will collect $100.  There will also be a separate raffle for prizes and split-the-pot. Where/when: Saint Xavier University, 3700 W. 103rd St. Chicago Feb. 4, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: The works of visual artist Nikkole Huss will be displayed from Thurs., Feb. 3 to Thurs., Feb. 24 at Saint Xavier University's SXU Gallery, located in the Chicago Campus' Warde Academic Center, 3700 W. 103rd St. Huss' art work will include Topographical terrain and Hubble imagery highlight.

3. TEXAS HOLD ‘EM TOURNAMENT

Where/when: Balagio, 17501 Dixie Highway, Homewood; Saturday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: Chance to win $5,000 first place cash and prizes including a large, flat-screen HDTV while helping the Cancer Support Center.

Pricing: $200 buy-in to play, $50 to watch, admission includes open bar, food buffet and appetizers.

Where/when: Arena Bowl, 4700 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn, 8 p.m. Feb. 5

Why Go: Help celebrate what would have been Megan Hurckes’ 12th birthday and raise money for Oak Lawn students going to high school and college, and the Westside girls softball team. For more info call 708-599-7302.

Pricing: $25, includes bowling, shoe rental refreshments and soft drinks. Cash bar.

Where/when: Bleeker’s Bowling Lanes, 3449 W. 95th St., Evergreen Park, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6

Why Go: Lots of TVs to watch as the Packers take on the Steelers with the proceeds going to fight childhood cancers. For more information, call John Zawaski at 708-259-5460.
