Renew Your New Year's Resolutions this Weekend: Get Out

Looking for something to do this weekend? Renew that New Year's resolution to get fit, find more deals or be more benevolent.

This weekend, Evergreen Parkers have a second crack at those "get fit," "save money," or "give more" resolutions made back in January. Several activities are going on around the village that will get you back into the groove of things and renew your commitments.

1.

2. Kids Karate Camp

Need something for the kids to do that will be both fun and educational? Kids Karate Camp, held daily in Evergreen Park, is offering karate classes, 911 and first training by a licensed EMT and what to do in case of Stranger Danger.

Cost: $199 per student

Get ready to use military-style training to get in the best shape ever! This class, with Coach Luch, is for all fitness levels. Gym shoes, water bottle, and a jump rope are required for participants. Register at the Recreation Department's office in the Hamilton B. Maher Community Center 3450 W. 97th St., Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. For information, call 708-229-3373. 

When: Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.

Cost: $50 for 10 classes

Discover a treasure of hardcover and paperback books, magazines, DVDs VHS tapes, CDs, audio books, and more for all ages at bargain prices and for a good cause at the Evergreen Park Public Library. The Library is also accepting donations (in good condition) for the sale. Note:Since they cannot accept magazines, encyclopedias or textbooks, please remove the hard covers and take advantage of the library's paper recycling bin in the library parking lot. All proceeds benefit the Evergreen Park Library Foundation!

5. 

Need a good bargain on some vintage or nearly new furniture, wear, or accessories? St. Vincent DePaul thrift store is hosting a sidewalk sale just in time or back-to-school. The store employees are picking out the best of the best to be on sale in one area. It gets better. Anyone who brings an SVdP receipt from the Sidewalk Sale will get a discount on ice cream from Rainbow Cone, 9233 S. Western Ave., right next door. Additionally, Rainbow Cone is donating a portion of the sales back to St. Vincent de Paul.

When: Sunday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
