Local community members joined together to support wounded army ranger Sgt. Brad Hojek, Jr. at the "Ranger Up- Healing Sgt. Brad Hojek, Jr" benefit at 115 Bourbon Street on July 17.

Evergreen Park native Sgt. Brad Hojek, Jr.'s family and friends hosted a benefit in his honor Sunday.

Hojek was shot multiple times, injuring him badly in the hip and pelvis. Loved ones held the benefit to raise money to defray the cost for family members who travel to a military hospital in Texas to assist him in his recovery.

“People have the kindest hearts,” Cathy Hojek, Brad’s aunt, said while giving Brad’s mom, Terry Manley, a hug.

Manley said, “It’s amazing. People are here supporting us that don’t even know us.”

Participants had the chance to purchase tickets for raffle baskets and silent auction items sponsored by over 100 local businesses along with live entertainment by the Bernie Glim and Country Road band and Slippery When Wet.

“We were expecting over 500 people,” said Dru Cronin, a long-time family friend and volunteer, “Support has been awesome, it’s really been overwhelming.”
