Hot Rods and Classic Cars: Get Out!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Participate in the Hot Rod and Classic Car Show, see the work of a Chicago artist, and more. Here are a few events going on in and around Evergreen Park this weekend.

October is here: Let the countdown to Halloween begin. Not in a scary mood? There's plenty to do away from home with the family.

1.

Join the Village of Evergreen Park in the 2011 Hot Rod and Classic Car Show at Yukich Field, 8900 S. Kedzie Ave. This year's event will benefit the Wounded Warrior's Project. The first 100 cars will receive a dashboard placard. For more information, call Mary at 708-229-8219.

When: Friday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. Judging begins at 6 p.m.

Where: Yukich Field, 9418 S. Kedzie Ave.

Cost: Free. $20 to be judged or $10 to show your car. Judging will be limited to 25 cars per category registered, so register as soon as possible.

The exhibit, titled "Crossings," will consist of McCullough's recent pedestal and wall sculptures and will be on display in the SXU Gallery, located in the Warde Academic Center at the Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. Runs until Tuesday, Oct. 18.

When: Saturday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

3. Pizza-Time Story Time

Kids and parents can celebrate National Pizza Month with saucy stories, gooey games, and crusty crafts. Contact children’s services for more information at 708-422-8522 ex. 36.

When: Saturday, Oct. 8, 3 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.

4. Booo!k Club

Read (or be read to) to earn a trick or treat bag and some goodies. Booo!k logs can be picked up at the children's services desk. Contact children’s services for more information at 708-422-8522 ex. 36.

5. Magic Stack 'n Whack Quilting Class

Join us at the library with your sewing machine, as instructor Penny Nichols takes you on a journey further down the quilting road. Students should have basic quilting skills. Sign up for one or for all 3 classes (2 sessions each). In Magic Stack 'n Whack, you'll create a kaleidoscope-effect quilt, in which the symmetrical design radiates out from the center of the block, forming a different beautiful star each time—all from the same fabric. Come and learn the magic and be amazed!

When: Sunday, Oct. 9, noon – 2 p.m.
