Get the Kids Out of the House Over Winter Break

Sanity savers to help parents' survive their children's winter vacation.

If you can hardly wait for school to start again, here some are fun activities that your kids can do in the Evergreen Park area with mom and dad or their friends over the winter break. 

Youth Basketball Programs

The Evergreen Park Recreation Department and Beyond the Arc Academy are partnering up to host a “Holiday Break Offensive Skills Camp” at the Activity Center at 3220 W. 98th Street. Sessions are Dec., 26, 27, 28 and Jan. 2,3 and 4. Call 708-229-3373 for more information.

Yay! The Ice Rink is Open!

Your kids can skate off their pent-up energy at the Evergreen Park skating rink at 8900 S. Kedzie Ave. Times are tentative. For more information, call 708-229-3373.

Youth Drop-In Center

The Youth Drop-In Center at 3450 W. 97th St. is open Tuesday through Friday, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. over the winter break. A variety of activities and games are available for youths from grads 5-12. The center includes a room with all the latest video games, plus ping pong and pool tables.  This is a safe, fun place to be. For more info, call 708-229-3377.

Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn

The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn offers on-going fun that challenges kids’ imaginations and expands their horizons. The museum will be open over the winter break Tues through Sat from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. $7 adults and children; seniors $6; children under one, free.

Movie Matinees at the Library

Bring a snack and watch “Arthur Christmas” on the big screen at the Evergreen Park Library for kids up to fifth grade. 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 27. Free.
