Evergreen Park Native, Singer-Songwriter Needs Your Help to Win Contest

Rising country music star Katie Quick is vying for $25,000 in cash and a 4-song EP with Grammy Award-winning producer Don Was.

Evergreen Park native Katie Quick has gone as far as Nashville to chase her dream of being a country music star—but she's not done yet.

Quick, an alum of Most Holy Redeemer and Mother McAuley High School, is seeking support from listeners across the Internet, as she competes in Guitar Center's, "Search for the Next Great American Songwriter," through Nov. 3. The winner receives $25,000 in cash and prizes, along with a 4-song EP produced by Don Was (who has worked with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, John Mayer, Garth Brooks, and more).

With each view of the video of her song on the Guitar Center site, Quick racks up 1 point. Each week, the contest organizers tally up the top 10 point accumulators. Only artists who make the weekly top 10 are guaranteed to move on to the finals. Performances are then evaluated by the Judging Panel and Don Was based on the following criteria: technique, authenticity, originality, and style.

Ten finalists will be hand-selected by Don Was and the judging panel to perform live in Los Angeles. From there, Don Was will choose a grand prize winner.

Quick has previously released four albums (the most recent in August 2013). She's also a former teacher at Morrill School, and founded the Fingertips Program. Quick combines live music and motivational speaking to teach children about following their passion.

"If I had a dollar for every time someone in the industry told me that I wasn’t good enough, that I wasn’t country enough, all these negative things when I could have potentially quit, I would be rich," Quick previously told Patch.

"It happens constantly in the music industry and it’s so incredibly competitive that the best thing anybody could know is that if you never give up, you will be able to get to the place that you want to go. It’s going to take a long time and a lot of persistence and hard work, for sure."
