Children's Museum Offering Strike Special to Evergreen Park Families

To promote the educational quality of its "learning through play" exhibits, the Children's Museum in Oak Lawn is offering half-price admission for duration of the Evergreen Park teachers strike. Visitors must show proof of Evergreen Park

The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is offering Evergreen Park D124 students and their families 50-percent off of admission until the conclusion of the Evergreen Park teacher strike.

The offer is valid Tuesday throughFriday, or until the kids go back to school. Visitors to the museum simply have to show their driver’s license or state ID at the front desk to prove Evergreen Park residency in order to take advantage of the discount.

Half-price admission is $3 for adults and children and $2.50 for seniors. Children are one are free.

“Parents are looking for positive, productive things for their children to do during the strike,” said Adam Woodworth, executive director of the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn.  “Regardless of which side of the issue you are on, it does not change the fact that children are not in school.”

Every exhibit and program at the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn is designed according to core Illinois Learning Standards. These are the same standards that the state of Illinois requires school districts to use when creating their school curriculum. Children are learning through a play environment.

The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn requires an adult to accompany the children inside of the museum.  “This is not an opportunity for you to drop off your child, but rather an opportunity for you to participate with your child in a fun, learning environment,” said Woodworth.

The recommended ages for the museum are children in the 5th grade or younger.

Woodworth said the same offer would be made to families in the future, when teachers might be on strike in other communities.

The Children's Museum in Oak Lawn is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and is located at 5100 Museum Drive (95th Street and Oak Lawn Metra Station).

Either you know him personally or you own a business in the community. Otherwise how could youRead More condone a guy that has singlehandedly contributed in the skyrocketing of property taxes, the closing of local businesses in favor of corporate big boxes that make no promise to hire residents, and crime rates through the roof? The village has gone from the family friendly "village of churches" to a concrete jungle that gouges lifelong residents that can't even keep their windows open at night anymore. Wake up.
