Back to School Fun, Garage Sale Bargains and More Healthy Activities: Get Out!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few things going on around the village to keep you and the kids active, get the kids excited about school, and discover a few bargains.

Grab a bargain, get fit and engage in some activities with the kids! This weekend, there are several activities (some free) going on around the village for you and your family to enjoy.

1. Garage Sale!

It's never too late for a garage sale! This Evergreen Park family is looking to sell sports equipment, household items, toys, games, books, and Christmas and Easter paraphernalia.

When: Saturday, Aug. 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In case you missed this high-calorie burning and shape contouring with Body By Jeanai, who will be Celebrating 10 Years of phenomenal body transformations, registration is still available online at http://www.bodybyjeanai.com or by calling 708-650-0393. This exercise class is open to all.

When: Friday, Aug. 26, 6:00 p.m.

Where: , 3450 W Maple St

Cost: $66 per 6-week phase OR $13 per class

3. 

Get ready to use military-style training to get in the best shape ever! This class, with Coach Luch, is for all fitness levels. Gym shoes, water bottle, and a jump rope are required for participants. Register at the Recreation Department's office in the Hamilton B. Maher Community Center 3450 W. 97th St., Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. For information, call 708-229-3373. 

When: Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.

Southwest Elementary School PTA is ringing in the new school year with a back to school bash. Parents will be selling hot dogs and burgers, and getting together to meet new families.  

When: Friday, Aug. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Behind  9901 S. Central Park Ave.

Cost: Free entry

The Children's Museum in Oak Lawn will host Take-Apart, an interactive adult/child activity.

Like to see how things tick?  This activity is ready for your inquisitive minds.  Different objects are ready to be taken apart. This free program is on the second floor in the kite area.  No registration is required.  Child must have an  adult supervision. 

When: Sunday, Aug. 28, all day

Cost: Free
