Catch This Produce at the Farmers Market Before It Goes Out of Season
A list of what you may find at today's farmers market, plus ways to help out your community and an automobile sale that could save you loads.
The summer weather is starting to turn cool, and that means the produce at the Evergreen Park Farmers Market is changing, much like the leaves soon will. The cherries and strawberries of early summer have already gone out of season. So what produce can you expect to pick up today at the farmers market?
According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture, here are just a few of the fruits and vegetables that are usually in season in mid-August:
- Apples
- Artichokes
- Bell Peppers
- Berries
- Corn
- Eggplant
- Grapes
- Leeks
- Melons
- Nectarines
- Peaches
- Plums
- Radishes
- Squash
- Sweet Potatoes
- Tomatoes
- Turnips
What else is going on today?
- If you have gently used band or orchestral instruments you no longer need, donate them to Oak Lawn's District 122 Band program. Drop off your donations at the District 122 Administrative Center, 6500 W. 95th St., in Oak Lawn or call 708-599-5550 for more information.
- Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant, 11501 S. Pulaski Rd., in Alsip will donate 15 percent of all sales from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today (Thursday) to the 4th Annual Chicago Cruisin’ For St. Jude. Be sure to mention Chicago Cruisin' for St. Jude when ordering and paying your bill to confirm that 15 percent of sales will go to St. Jude's.
- Mancari's, 4630 W. 95th St., in Oak Lawn is holding its One Day Sale today.
