Super Bowl Recipe: Chicken Wings

Over the years I have made way too many types of chicken wings, always trying to find a balance of sweet without being too sweet. Saucy without having the kids drip it everywhere! This is the result.  I hope you enjoy the wings as much as my family does. The hardest part of the recipe is seperating the wings into sections. How do you do this? With a sharp knife and cutting board. Or, buy the wings already seperated. Ta dum! Look in the frozen section and read the bag.  Easy peasy :)

Cola Hot Wings                                                          Yield: 3 dozen or so

3 lbs. chicken wings, cut into sections

1 cup Louisiana- style hot sauce

12 oz cola ( regular, not diet) I use Coke or Pepsi

1 Tble soy sauce

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

¼ tsp pepper

1.)    In a small bowl combine the hot sauce, cola, soy sauce, cayenne and pepper.

2.)     Prepare grill for indirect heat, using a drip pan.  Moisten a paper towel with oil and coat the grill with the oil.  Grill chicken wings, covered, over an indirect heat, for 10 minutes.  Then grill another 20 minutes or longer until the juices run clear.  Baste occasionally with the sauce.

3.)    If you like it spicier, leave the chicken wings in the marinade for a longer period of time in a zip lock bag. Then grill.

If you want to cook these in the oven, preheat oven to 400*. Line two baking sheets with foil and place the wings on top of the foil. Bake for 10 minutes and than baste. Turn the wings every 10 minutes, basitng as you go. They are done when they reach an internal temperature of 180*, about 30 minutes.

I will seperate the sauce into a smaller bowl, this is the sauce I use to baste. That way when they are finished, I can put more sauce on top before I serve them. I do not want to use sauce that I basted raw chicken with! Let's keep everyone safe and healthy!
