Am I in the minority? I will accomplish my 2012 New Year's resolution: The 50/50 challenge-- Fifty movies and fifty books in 2012 (and blogging about it). I only counted nonfiction books to make it a challenge since I easily read 50 books in a year. I'm on the 50th book (Reimagining Equality by Anita Hill), which I should finish today.

I've decided to donate plasma & platelets 13 times in 2013 at the Heartland Blood Center in Tinley Park. Oh, and work out more. And spend less on lattes. And argue less with trolls on the Internet. And vacuum more often. But mostly I resolve to do the blood thing.

Chuck, how about some humor? You do you still work for Hallmark/Shoebox? Did they let you go due to your lack of humor? Or are you saving it all for them because this joke is a lame excuse. PATCH, get a conservative humorist. Someone who can write and deliver a joke/punchline.

Chuck great cartoons. The ones that don't like them are the ones that need a joke explained to them after they are told.

Now that's funny!!! The biggest troll on the Patch thinks that Chuck's comics are good. Chuck, if that is not a reason to quit with these comics, then there is no hope for you.

Fish on Fridays?
The U.S. Catholic Bishops are meeting in Baltimore this week for their annual gathering. Timothy Cardinal Dolan, who is Archbishop of New York and who serves as the President of USCCB, has made an interesting suggestion: that Catholics in the U.S. go back to meatless Fridays year round. This was standard practice throughout the Roman Church until just a few decades ago. Currently, the Church only requires meatless Fridays during Lent.

Cardinal Dolan had this to say on his blog:

“What about us Catholics?  For God’s sake, I trust we are recognized for our faith, worship, charity, and lives of virtue.

“What are the external markers that make us (Catholics) stand out? Lord knows, there used to be tons of them:  Friday abstinence from meat was one of them, but we recall so many others:  seriousness about Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation; fasting on the Ember Days; saints names for children; confession at least annually; loyal membership in the local parish; fasting for three hours before Holy Communion, just to name a few.

Don't even get me started on that wingnut Dolan. His election to president of the USCCB over my dad's friend Bishop Kicanas has set the Church back 100 years. Next thing you know, he'll be pushing for the return of Mass being said in a language that died when Rome fell rather than in the vernacular.

Where have you been Church's are doing some Latin masses. Maybe your dads friend the Bishop wasn't qualified nor liked in the inner circle. Bring on the meatless Fridays. They don't bother me as well as Latin masses. Mike F. You are a cafeteria Catholic. Time for change in your faith. Grow up!

I think the joke is like many people who makes 'resolutions' they are the same year in and year out. No one does anything to improve themselves. So back at pretending they will better themselves this coming year.

Are these kinds of "marriage" okay in your book? They are in the Good Book.

The Biblical Definition of marriage is…

- An arranged marriage—Genesis 24:1-4 (and many other passages)

- A levirate marriage (If a man died leaving no male heir, his brother was required to marry his widow and produce children)—Deuteronomy 25:5-10

- A polygamous marriage—1 Kings 11:3 (and many, many other passages)

- Not inter-racial—Deuteronomy 7:14; 1 Corinthians 7:39; 2 Corinthians 6:14

- Filled with sexual prohibitions—no intercourse during menstruation (The woman is unclean. Yet another degradation of women.) —The woman cannot withhold sex from her husband; she has to fulfill his desire for sex when he wants it. (And another example of the Bible’s misogyny)

- Not allowed to be dissolved, i.e. NO DIVORCE—Matthew 5:31-32; Mark 10:2-12; Luke 16:18

- Except when the man wanted to because his wife had become ‘displeasing’ to him—Deuteronomy 24:1-4

- Between a rapist and his victim—Deuteronomy 22:28-29

- An arranged marriage by a slave owner for his slaves—Genesis 24:4

- Can be between brother and sister—How else do you explain where Cain’s wife came from!

- Intended to produce children—Without children a woman was:
Shamed—a barren woman was looked upon as cursed by God
Unable to be saved—1 Timothy 2:15

And on, and on… ad nauseam!
