An Evergreen Park police officer said that the roof caved in at Casual Male, 3627 W. 95th St. at approximately 1:26 p.m.
Collapsed shelving and debris was visible through the front windows inside the store.
An employee at the adjacent Sherwin Williams paint store said she was working with a customer when she heard a loud boom.
“It sounded like a semi driving through the brick,” Kim Korosa said. “I had a customer and told her to leave because my warehouse filled with smoke from the debris. It was really freaky.”
Korosa said she saw the employee at Casual Male exit through the store's back door. There were no other people in the store.
According to Korosa, authorities said there was some structural damage to her store’s inner wall.
